Oakland Audiology is an Audiology-based hearing care practice. Audiologists are the professionals who specialize in the diagnosis and non-medical treatment of hearing. We are licensed to practice Audiology in the State of Michigan and are long-standing members of the American Academy of Audiologists (AAA), the world’s largest organization for professional Audiologists. AAA is dedicated to providing quality hearing care services through professional development, education, research, and increased public awareness of hearing and balance disorders.

Our Audiologists have undergone extensive training in:

  • Normal and impaired hearing
  • Prevention of hearing loss
  • Identification and assessment of hearing problems
  • Habilitation or rehabilitation of persons with hearing disorders

The “CCC-A” (Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology) you see after our audiologists’ names means that they have been certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). This nationally recognized professional credential represents a level of excellence in the field of Audiology. It is another way of saying that our Audiologists possess the knowledge, skills and expertise to provide quality clinical services, and that they are committed to ongoing professional development to keep their certification current.

The “Au.D.” (Doctor of Audiology ) is a professional degree for an audiologist.   As of 2007, the Au.D. has replaced Masters-level audiology programs as the entry-level degree.  The Au.D. program is designed to produce audiologists who are skilled in providing diagnostic, rehabilitative, and other services associated with hearing, balance, and related audiological fields. These individuals help patients with hearing problems primarily by screening for hearing loss and fitting them with hearing assistive devices. There is an emphasis on the clinical learning experience, though most programs also have a research component.

Sarah Brown, Au.D., CCC-A

Sarah Brown

Doctor of Audiology

Dr. Sarah Brown recently joined the Oakland Audiology team and is looking forward to building long-lasting patient relationships. She has been practicing in South Eastern Michigan for 3 years and is a licensed Audiologist in the State of Michigan who is also certified by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association. She received both her Bachelor’s and her Doctorate of Audiology degrees from Central Michigan University. Prior to receiving her doctorate, she completed her externship at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, MI.

Why audiology? Her career in hearing and sound was influenced, in part, by her musical background as a pianist and from her time spent in the band during college. Her interests in music and sound drew her to find out more about how the ear worked and how she could help those who are struggling with hearing and understanding sounds.

Sarah is a good fit with Oakland Audiology because she is passionate about educating patients and selecting customized solutions based on an individual’s lifestyle and listening needs to improve quality of life through the use of hearing technology.

Michael Robinette, Au.D., CCC-A

Mike is board certified, licensed in Michigan and a member of the American Academy of Audiology and the American Speech Language hearing Association.  In his spare time, he enjoys reading, line dancing, tennis and kayaking.

Amber Murphy: Patient Advocate

Amber has been working in hearing healthcare for 10 years. She started at Michigan Ear Institute as a Business office Associate, and later became the  Administrative Assistant to the Audiology Department there. Her years of experience in hearing care and customer services has helped her to excel in developing patients relations and gain a greater knowledge and understanding of the challenges that hearing loss can present to patients.  She joined the team at Oakland Audiology in April of 2017.

You will find Amber’s smiling face at our front reception desk where she will be greeting our patients, taking insurance information, answering calls and scheduling appointments.

Amber enjoys spending time with her family and working on projects with her husband around their home.
